Base is hard flat red about 1/8" thick with akind of platter on the top with little holes around the edge and a brass bolt in the center which anchors the shank. These are kind of crazy, I think they were made by hand because each one is a little different. They are plastic kind of molded with little circles mounded over the base. These are very hard to photograph, the pink is a true bubble gum pink with gold hardware. I always look for button design that is out of nowhere.
