History of L'Etoffe Fabrics

L’Etoffe Fabrics happened serendipitously when I moved to Eugene, Oregon after completing graduate school at UCLA, living, working and studying in Morocco and Chile. It began as a project out of my home studio into a brick and mortar fabric shop in Downtown Springfield in 2014. Over the first five years the shop became a destination for a unique selection of designer and organic fabrics and trims dedicated to the art of fine garment sewing. Growing to include classes and workshops the space became a community where sewers gathered to exchange stories about life and sewing. Simultaneously, the business also opened a parallel online shop which continues to steadily grow and serve an international clientele.

In May 2019 I decided to shutter the storefront in Oregon to move back to Southern California where I am from originally. L’Etoffe Fabrics is currently a dedicated online boutique located in Redlands just 1 hour east of Los Angeles.I also look forward to continuing to grow the sister business - Center for Pattern Design, a pattern company inspired by the work of Madeleine Vionnet which also publishes sewing and pattern cutting books. Both companies have participated in the annual Sewing and Stitchery Expo in Puyallup Washington. Currently, we will be participating in the International Sewing Arts Festival, Upland, CA - situated between Palm Springs and Los Angeles.

Providing top notch customer service is very important to me. You can always contact me to discuss your projects or inquire about a particular trim, ribbon, color, fabric, whatever. I am always here to help!

Customers always ask me about my background and why I opened a fabric shop.... Actually my early career began as a young fashion designer in Los Angeles at the turn of the millennium. Sewing since I was I five years old - I later studied apparel construction at Los Angeles Trade Tech and the Fashion Institute of Technology (NYC) in the 1990’s. Back then my instructors reminisced about working with Marlene Dietrich and Natalie Wood, and clothing was still manufactured in New York City.

As a student, I worked at the Musuem at FIT while they inventoried the collections during the transfer from analog to digital records and I interned at Richard Tyler. Later I worked independently producing my own collections receiving many accolades for my work and some press, both editorial and profiles in many national and international periodicals including: Gen Art, LA, Women’s Wear Daily (WWD), Surface (SF), L’Officiel (Paris), Flaunt (LA), Hanatsubaki Lyz Goldwyn Eye (Japan), Frieze (UK), V (NYC), Los Angeles Times Magazine to name a few.
